Mostly this is me waving to you saying Hi from the blog world. :)
I so love being able to burn CDs now. I just burned a couple for my mom...one of a playlist I made back in December, and one I made today. I hope she likes them, or at least finds a song or two that she likes on them.
Also, yes, I am procrastinating. I need to do the dishes. I also need to vacuum, but can't do that until Daisy wakes up. It would be rude to wake up a sleeping cat.
Travel coming up: leaving tomorrow for the last (!) Murfreesboro/Franklin teaching run. Heading to Winston-Salem on May 15, and then riding with Kate to Richmond for the weekend of May 16-17. Busch Gardens!!! Babysitting Alex at my grandparents' house from May 27-June 2, and then leaving on June 13 for LA. Will be spending time in LA, San Diego, and Las Vegas. Sooooo looking forward to that vacation!
I now have a shiny new *pink* iPod nano! I love it.
What are y'all listening to these days? What do I need to check out?
I realize this is my second update today, but I realize that lately I've mostly been talking about kittens. So here are some of the other things that have been going on lately...
* I'm about to make friendship bread again. I haven't made any since 2005 and I had to clean up the mess from the mass suicide of starter. I'm hoping for better luck with starter this time...and I don't plan on keeping it around for long.
* A friend reminded me of the song "In the Sun" by Joseph Arthur. I hadn't heard it in awhile, so I bought it on iTunes last night. It's so sad, but such a beautiful song.
* I'm not quite done with Christmas knitting yet. And I'm kind of in denial about how much I still have to knit. I should be able to get it done this weekend. That's the plan, anyway.
* I have failed miserably on the Christmas card front. I bought them. I have a list of who will get cards. But I haven't even opened the boxes to start writing in them (again with the denial...). Instead, either those will be New Year's cards or I'll send valentines. Or "baby" announcements when the kitten comes home. So for those who have already sent a card (and I've received some fantastically lovely cards!!!) know that I'll send you a card, too. Later.
* Why is just the thought of dating really hard? Sorry, that was random. No, I'm not dating anyone, but there is someone I'd like to date. I just don't know if he would date me. I don't think I told him about my blog, but I'm going to stop now in case I did...
* I might just have to watch the Grammys this year. I haven't actually watched in a long time, as I usually don't know the music. However, this year, I know a decent bit of it. I'm most excited about the "best alternative music album" category...both Lily Allen and Arcade Fire are nominated!
* This past Monday I jogged a quarter of a mile on the treadmill at the gym and didn't die. I know that's not a long distance, but it's the most I've done in *years.* Possibly the most I've done since high school. And it felt awesome. :)
* For some reason about half of my Netflix queue is "short wait." Including, of course, Doctor Who season 3. Now that I'm caught up with stuff on TiVo, I'd like to watch more DVDs, please.
* Speaking of DVDs, my catsitter loaned me Twin Peaks season 1 to watch over Christmas break. Can you believe I've never seen that show?
* Yes, I'm now on Christmas break. The library doesn't reopen until December 31. I cannot express to you how happy I am to have a week off.
I should be in bed, but Arcade Fire is on Austin City Limits right now! I really hope to see this band live one of these days. I have much love for their music.
I just bought the track "Doomsday" from this CD on iTunes:
That particular track makes me all teary and really miss Rose. That's all. I said it was a quick update. :)
Until I purchase more batteries for my camera, I won't be able to upload pics from my birthday parties. But until then, I can tell you about what I've bought with the gift cards I've received!
I heard about this book from a friend, then checked it out from the public library. I instantly realized that I *must* own this book as a reference manual. I've learned several things from it so far, and it's confirmed some things that I already knew. In summary, I love it. :)
I also bought the DVD of "Ten Things I Hate About You" because my VHS copy was starting to wear out.
I also got a couple of gift cards from Bath & Body Works, and haven't quite used them up yet! So far I've purchased a couple things from their Alice in Wonderland collection:
I also got a couple of iTunes gift cards. (At this point I was a bit overwhelmed!) I still have a little bit left to spend. I bought a few single songs, and have bought three albums. I must admit, I've had fun shopping for my birthday presents. :) And I should mention that I also got yarn money from my mom...will post pics of it when the camera works again.
Thanks to lazylibrarian I now know about The Arcade Fire, a Canadian indie rock band. (I tried to post a music clip, but that failed. Oh well.)
Right now I'm listening to Neighborhood #3 (Power Out) from their CD Funeral. It's a haunting song, and I think it'll be in my head for awhile. Love it!
I should mention that redheadedali is also a fan, and she's the one that got me hooked on Lily Allen. Thanks, ladies. With friends like you, I may never listen to American music again. :)
I think some of the most addictive new music out there is by Lily Allen. It's fun, but is definitely not Britneyesque pop (which is part of the appeal!).
What's your musical horoscope? (Put your music player on shuffle and write down the first 10 songs that come up.) Inspired by Stephanie.
I'm going to cheat and use iTunes since I am at home and on my computer. The iPod is charging so that we can have another fun-filled day together tomorrow. :)
1. "Too Late" by No Doubt
2. "Motorcycle Drive By" by Third Eye Blind
(this is quickly turning into redheadedali's worst nightmare!)
3. "Sleep to Dream" by Fiona Apple
4. "Easy Silence" by Dixie Chicks
5. "Miss Independent" by Kelly Clarkson
6. "Song 2" by Blur
7. "End Up Alone" by Nine Days
8. "Hope" by Alien Ant Farm
9. "Clint Eastwood" by Gorillaz
10. "Intergalactic" by Beastie Boys
Fun!
