I'm writing this blog entry from my shiny new iMac. :) I bought it on Thursday and I absolutely love it. Hooray!
Now I have to make sure I get off this thing every once in awhile to get to my knitting. I'm dreadfully behind on my projects, and friends keep popping out babies. Sigh. One day, maybe when I'm in my 40s, I'll be caught up on baby projects. I want to make the scarf that my friend Carrie is making.
I've got something else, too, that my facebook friends already know. But I want to wait until I have a chance to send something to my mom before announcing it here. Oooh, the suspense. ;)
I wish there was a way to go to "sugar rehab" as I've determined that it is definitely my problem right now. I'm working on it though. It's just very very very hard.
I'll leave you with a picture taken earlier this month of me and my friends Librarian Amy and Food/Crafts/Books Girl (and her baby, Charlotte).
I'm all done with baking banana and zucchini bread. I haven't made as much of those as pumpkin (more tomorrow) or friendship (more next weekend), which is fine, because my freezer probably couldn't handle more. However, the freezer is almost empty of bread now...I mailed off several loaves this morning. Hooray!
I think that next year instead of getting myself in a baking frenzy, I'm going to knit as many prayer shawls as possible. There is a shawl ministry at my church, and I know they'd love to receive some. I figure if I start in November next year, I can get 2-3 done by the first of the year.
I really should get away from the computer now and start tackling the TiVo. I think it's about to pop! I know I've got about 3 episodes of Pushing Daisies to watch...I'm so sad that it got canceled!
...let's catch up!
* I'm getting over a nasty bout of strep throat. It didn't respond to amoxicillin, so I had to go back to the doctor for different antibiotics & more screening test (still negative for flu, now I know that I also don't have mono). I started the new antibiotics just over 24 hours ago and I'm feeling really good. Hooray!
* I need to get back to knitting soon. When I was sick I didn't feel like doing anything (except TV, sometimes...I'm now caught up on Lost), and before that I was too busy to really work on anything. So, back to the needles soon.
* I just now got around to looking up who won best picture at the Oscars. I watched a bit of the show on Sunday, but didn't want to stay up until the end, esp. because I hadn't seen any of the movies.
* I miss Pushing Daisies. I'm glad the writers' strike is over, but I still miss my shows.
* I had a 20 minute conversation with Alex this evening. She is quite the little talker. :) She started a Montessori preschool on Monday, and she LOVES it. A lot. Both days so far, when my dad picked her up, she has asked if she could go back again tomorrow. :) Her 5th birthday was earlier this month, and I need to post a picture of her cake sometime soon.
* Daisy just nudged me to remind me to write on this (you know she's miss green kitty): I read The Omnivore's Dilemma recently. I thought it was an interesting book. I admit that at times it was hard to really get into, but I get the point. No, I'm not a vegetarian now, but I am thinking a lot more about where my food comes from. I think the single worst part was the description of how cows have tummies that are good for digesting grass, and then the description of how they are fed corn instead at the big processing places. I was all "noooooo! it's going to hurt their tummies!" The upshot of this is that now that I'm healthy again (and can actually eat!), I'm going to start truly seeking out food from local farm.
* I realize that for an "update" post this has been rather bland. Sorry.
* Something fun: I'm going to a friend's wedding next month. And several other friends will be there as well, and we'll have our own table or two at the reception. :)
* And there's something else on the horizon that is big news, but I'm not ready to share it in a public place yet. No, it's not another kitten (yet). No, I'm not moving. You'll just have to wait & see.
I got my Ravelry invitation today. Wow. I can see that this will be a total time suck as soon as I get into it. But it's so awesome.
If you're already there and want to add me, I'm medlibrarygirl. For those of you waiting for your invitation, be patient. It's worth the wait. :)
Here is a picture of baby blanket #3 for this year spread out on the back of my couch. Naturally, Daisy had to get in the picture, too.
I've also made myself a pair of socks! Here is a pic of the pair, and also one of the right sock.
Finally, Baby Blanket #4, using the pattern that devillibrarian posted awhile back. After spreading it out, I realized that it's nearly done!
1. I'm making progress on the literature searches here at work.
2. Knitting group tonight!
3. I'm going to an 11:59p showing of Harry Potter! Yay!!!
I think I'll try to nap between knitting group and the movie. I doubt it'll happen, but we'll see.
Other updates:
* I still need to post pictures of my latest craft projects. Now I might wait until my pair of stripy socks is done (I'm currently working on the foot of sock #1).
* I get entirely too squealy-happy every time I think that I may be going to England again next year.
* My mom will be here on Saturday morning!!! How much cleaning have I done in preparation? Um, not much yet. I think Friday night will be spent dusting, vacuuming, and sweeping, as those things need to be done at the last minute anyway. And those of you who have seen my apartment know that I don't keep a lot of clutter & stuff around, so it's fairly easy to get ready for guests. I'm very happy that she'll be here soon!
I just realized that it's been a week since I've updated, so here we go...
Gotcha. You thought I had something really cool to talk about tonight. Nope, it's been the same old stuff around here. Work is good, life is good, Daisy is good. I'm going to visit my dad, stepmom, baby sis, and the puppy this weekend.
Here are a few random things:
* June is going by way too fast. Last year I started making Christmas presents in August and that worked out really well. Now I've only got a month and a half to make more stuff for me/learn some new skills before starting presents. If I decide to make presents again this year. Well, I'll be making something...not sure if it will be my traditional gift of loaves of bread (I've done that a few times) and/or fudge and cookies and/or knitting/crocheting things. I like giving (and receiving!) things made by hand. I wrote out my list today, and pretty much the only "for sure" thing is that I'll be making is for my grandpa: a pair of wool socks and/or a hat.
* I got a new cell phone! Same number of course, but this newer phone makes it so much easier to text. Yay! Oh, and probably the most important thing (besides that there were enough credits/in-store rebates that it cost me nothing): it's PINK!
* I made the best cheddar bread tonight that I've ever made. Everything turned out about as close to perfect as I can imagine it. I'm taking a loaf to my dad's (a Father's Day treat!) and leaving the rest of the other loaf for my catsitter.
* I got a sample of a new cat food, Cat Chow Naturals. Daisy loves it! And they carry it at my local grocery store, so I might get it for her next time.
* I've started watching the American version of The Office on with the Netflix "watch now" feature. I can't believe how funny this show is, and that I haven't been watching it all along!
* There are probably other little things that I could write about, but that would then qualify this blog for one of the most boring ones around. So I think I'll stop for now.
I've started baby blanket #4 for a friend at work and book club.
It's this pattern: http://devillibrarian.vox.com/library/post/baby-play-blankie-pattern.html
I'm using Lion Brand Wool Ease in Rose Heather, and just using one strand at a time (not two worked as one strand) on 10.5 straight needles. I cast on 115 stitches like the pattern, so I figure it'll turn out smaller than 48" x 48" like the pattern says. Oh well. It should turn out a decent size. I like how easy the pattern is, and the yarn looks really pretty 5 rows in, so yay for that.
Hopefully I'll get lots knitted during MLA. And thank you to devillibrarian for posting the pattern. :)
Here are some pictures of what I've been up to so far this year. The only things not pictured are my current works in progress (baby blanket #3 and a pair of socks).
Baby Blanket #1 for Goddesslibrarian:
Actual conversation last night at the Barnes & Noble cafe as I was teaching a friend to knit:
Me: See, you've got it. You'll be knitting sweaters before me.
Her: Yeah, and monkeys might fly out of my butt.
:)
