It's really snowing here. Big fluffy flakes that look super-soft. It's sticking to the rooftops, grassy areas, and tops of cars. I actually don't mind the snow right now because I don't have to leave the apartment until tomorrow morning. I'm just watching it from my bedroom window while goofing off online, listening to music, and drinking my second cup of tea. I'll be exercising soon, but for now, I like chilling out and watching the snow.
Sadly, I didn't document this past weekend with photographs. My dad and Alex came to visit me yesterday. We went to the Lady Vols game (yay, we won!) and had a great night. They left early this morning, and I'm glad I'll be seeing them again soon for Alex's birthday (she'll be *6*!!). Daisy is taking a long morning nap to recover. Actually, she did great...Alex was calmer with her, and Daisy rewarded her by not spending all of the time under the bed.
I know there is more to update on, but for now, I'm just going to watch the snow...
As most of you already know, I'm doing really well after surgery. The soreness is almost gone, and I'm feeling good. I'm looking forward to actually eating again (starting soft foods on Saturday), but other than that, I think I'm doing great! My surgeon said that the surgery was "boring" which is a very good thing. He told me later when I was in my room (I stayed one night in the hospital) that he could tell that I didn't cheat on my pre-op diet, as the shrinkage of my liver was perfect. :)
I'm going to be working from home part-time this week, which is great, as I'll be able to get my daily walks in. I've been walking for 20+ minutes three times a day. Except today, my off day, which was only one walk of 28 minutes. I'll be back at three times a day tomorrow.
I had a really fun pre-op weekend. I went to the UAB/TN game on 9/13 which was a lot of fun. I hadn't been to a game since the KY game in 2006, so I really enjoyed that. The following day I went to Dollywood with my friend T. to ride the roller coasters one more time before surgery. So much fun! Except that it was their barbeque festival, and I was on the liquid diet, oh the aromas. I stuck to it, though, and am glad I did. We're planning on going back sometime during their Christmas festival, as I've never been for that.
Daisy has been a very good kitty through all of this. I had no doubt, really, but still, yay kitty!
I'm going to be going to bed soon. I've been getting to bed fairly early, and want to be up at a decent time tomorrow to "work."
Because I really like writing from the shallow end of the pool... :)
* My dishwasher is really loud. Yes, I'm just now making note of this...I use it once, maybe twice a year. I'd happily give it to FantasyLibrarian, but I'm quite sure that my apartment complex wouldn't like that.
* Daisy is stretched out on my (admittedly unmade) bed. I was just about to take a picture of her, but then she got up to stretch. Because it's hard to have too many pictures of one's cat on a blog, here is one from a few days ago. She loves soaking up sunshine:
* That paper that I submitted was rejected. :( I'm going to wait a week or so, then go through and make some adjustments. In the meantime, I'm brainstorming other places to publish.
* I've been a total knitting slacker lately. I need to get back into it soon, as those baby blankets aren't going to knit/crochet themselves...
* I've also been a bit of a slacker on the housekeeping front, hence the need to run the dishwasher. Sigh.
* I'm glad I was finally talked into joining Facebook, as it's fun catching up with friends. :)
* I think I'll go to bed early tonight. Early for a Saturday, anyway.
...let's catch up!
* I'm getting over a nasty bout of strep throat. It didn't respond to amoxicillin, so I had to go back to the doctor for different antibiotics & more screening test (still negative for flu, now I know that I also don't have mono). I started the new antibiotics just over 24 hours ago and I'm feeling really good. Hooray!
* I need to get back to knitting soon. When I was sick I didn't feel like doing anything (except TV, sometimes...I'm now caught up on Lost), and before that I was too busy to really work on anything. So, back to the needles soon.
* I just now got around to looking up who won best picture at the Oscars. I watched a bit of the show on Sunday, but didn't want to stay up until the end, esp. because I hadn't seen any of the movies.
* I miss Pushing Daisies. I'm glad the writers' strike is over, but I still miss my shows.
* I had a 20 minute conversation with Alex this evening. She is quite the little talker. :) She started a Montessori preschool on Monday, and she LOVES it. A lot. Both days so far, when my dad picked her up, she has asked if she could go back again tomorrow. :) Her 5th birthday was earlier this month, and I need to post a picture of her cake sometime soon.
* Daisy just nudged me to remind me to write on this (you know she's miss green kitty): I read The Omnivore's Dilemma recently. I thought it was an interesting book. I admit that at times it was hard to really get into, but I get the point. No, I'm not a vegetarian now, but I am thinking a lot more about where my food comes from. I think the single worst part was the description of how cows have tummies that are good for digesting grass, and then the description of how they are fed corn instead at the big processing places. I was all "noooooo! it's going to hurt their tummies!" The upshot of this is that now that I'm healthy again (and can actually eat!), I'm going to start truly seeking out food from local farm.
* I realize that for an "update" post this has been rather bland. Sorry.
* Something fun: I'm going to a friend's wedding next month. And several other friends will be there as well, and we'll have our own table or two at the reception. :)
* And there's something else on the horizon that is big news, but I'm not ready to share it in a public place yet. No, it's not another kitten (yet). No, I'm not moving. You'll just have to wait & see.
Here are some fun pictures. I definitely need the fun pics this week...
Daisy, after going to the vet on December 22. They put a pink bandana on her!
Sandy on Christmas Eve...she loved being around so many people. I'll be seeing her again tomorrow, and hope to get a better picture (she's about 70 pounds now!).
And finally, Lily Belle! I met her for the first time today. She is definitely my kitten. :)
My kitten was born this past Saturday. She's a calico! I hope to have a picture soon, and hope to meet her in person in the next few weeks (I think I'll be bringing her home on January 26, 2008).
Squee!!! KITTEN!!!!!!!
(Yes, Daisy and I have discussed this. She's not *thrilled* but is not hating me, either.)
This is not a done deal, as I have not discussed it with all parties involved.
But I might be getting a kitten in January!! More details later if this happens (and pictures, of course).
(yes, "parties involved" means Daisy.)
By popular demand, here are a couple pics of Daisy taken today. Note that she doesn't look particularly happy. I accidentally woke her up from her late afternoon nap to get these pictures.
Once I take more pics of craft stuff (and download the pics from my camera), I'll post those as well.
1. She's a cat. Really, that's enough. ;)
2. She is now out of the Cat Chow Indoor Formula and is only eating Cat Chow Naturals. She loves this food, and so far it seems to agree with her.
3. I bought a couple of compact fluorescent bulbs today for my lamps. She's been much more concerned about things like this since we watched An Inconvenient Truth together, and I told her that I'd be putting in more effort to do my part.
4. My mom is coming to visit soon, so that means someone else will be around to pet her.
5. Again, she's a cat. She's got a good life, and I love her.
I just realized that it's been a week since I've updated, so here we go...
Gotcha. You thought I had something really cool to talk about tonight. Nope, it's been the same old stuff around here. Work is good, life is good, Daisy is good. I'm going to visit my dad, stepmom, baby sis, and the puppy this weekend.
Here are a few random things:
* June is going by way too fast. Last year I started making Christmas presents in August and that worked out really well. Now I've only got a month and a half to make more stuff for me/learn some new skills before starting presents. If I decide to make presents again this year. Well, I'll be making something...not sure if it will be my traditional gift of loaves of bread (I've done that a few times) and/or fudge and cookies and/or knitting/crocheting things. I like giving (and receiving!) things made by hand. I wrote out my list today, and pretty much the only "for sure" thing is that I'll be making is for my grandpa: a pair of wool socks and/or a hat.
* I got a new cell phone! Same number of course, but this newer phone makes it so much easier to text. Yay! Oh, and probably the most important thing (besides that there were enough credits/in-store rebates that it cost me nothing): it's PINK!
* I made the best cheddar bread tonight that I've ever made. Everything turned out about as close to perfect as I can imagine it. I'm taking a loaf to my dad's (a Father's Day treat!) and leaving the rest of the other loaf for my catsitter.
* I got a sample of a new cat food, Cat Chow Naturals. Daisy loves it! And they carry it at my local grocery store, so I might get it for her next time.
* I've started watching the American version of The Office on with the Netflix "watch now" feature. I can't believe how funny this show is, and that I haven't been watching it all along!
* There are probably other little things that I could write about, but that would then qualify this blog for one of the most boring ones around. So I think I'll stop for now.
