First of all, I've been on the pre-op diet since Monday. It's not pleasant, but I'm getting by. In case you're wondering, it's two weeks of only clear liquids and protein drinks. Yeah. Fortunately my mood hasn't been terrible, as I was afraid I would be horribly cranky & stabby. However, every time I start to think that I'm doing okay, I really want to go face-first into a pizza. Which, of course, is not happening. Not at all.
I have some great pics from the baby shower last weekend, and need to get them off my camera. Maybe tomorrow? I've started another blanket which should be really easy to work on while recovering. That is, when I'm not working from home or out walking.
New TV season has started! And even more exciting than that, college football!!! fauxmiddlechild and I have a fun tradition of lots of texting on football Saturdays, which makes it even more fun.
Not much else happening in my world. Daisy is doing well. I've been daydreaming about the outfits I'm going to wear in Hawaii next year. And am considering swimming lessons as early as this coming winter.
Oh, and you all know my birthday is coming up, right? This year's birthday treat will most likely be tomato soup. :)
I took a few pics during my birthday parties this year, and finally got batteries in my camera so I can show them to you.
First, at work, there was the First Annual Brownie Festival:
After dinner I had my class, which included my first ever birthday flowers!
Until I purchase more batteries for my camera, I won't be able to upload pics from my birthday parties. But until then, I can tell you about what I've bought with the gift cards I've received!
I heard about this book from a friend, then checked it out from the public library. I instantly realized that I *must* own this book as a reference manual. I've learned several things from it so far, and it's confirmed some things that I already knew. In summary, I love it. :)
I also bought the DVD of "Ten Things I Hate About You" because my VHS copy was starting to wear out.
I also got a couple of gift cards from Bath & Body Works, and haven't quite used them up yet! So far I've purchased a couple things from their Alice in Wonderland collection:
I also got a couple of iTunes gift cards. (At this point I was a bit overwhelmed!) I still have a little bit left to spend. I bought a few single songs, and have bought three albums. I must admit, I've had fun shopping for my birthday presents. :) And I should mention that I also got yarn money from my mom...will post pics of it when the camera works again.
We apparently have the same birthday!
According to google.com, it's Google's 9th birthday today. And it's my 31st birthday. :)
So far I've had a great day...lots of brownies at work and a sushi dinner in my future. I'm going to Nashville this weekend to celebrate with family. There will be pictures and more of a write-up next week, I promise.
Have you ever seen a Boohbah cake? If not, here is your chance:
It was a yummy cake...chocolate with white icing (airbrushed with lots of color!). Alex was tickled as could be with the cake, but most of all with the figures on top of the cake.
I still can't believe she's 4 years old already! We had such a fun weekend together, and I can't wait to see her again sometime soon.
I can't believe my baby sister is 4 years old today!!! We're going to celebrate more this weekend, and I'm very excited about seeing her again.
Below is a picture taken sometime over the holidays (that's one of the hats I made her for Christmas). One of my colleagues suggested that she was rolling her eyes at the result of the Outback Bowl.
In short, it was awesome!!!
And the details...(should I use names? probably not, since I haven't asked permission)
We started the day at the Apple Cake Tea Room in Farragut (suburb of Knoxville). I had never been there before, and was quite impressed. It wasn't a tea room like a place that serves high tea, but a cute little restaurant in a log cabin. The food was tasty, especially the apple cake!
From there we went to play putt-putt (miniature golf). The weather was gorgeous and it wasn't crowded at all (thanks to the UT game we assumed). So much fun!
We had a break, and I used that time to help get A. settled in. She was the only out-of-town guest, and stayed with me on Saturday night.
From there, it was dinner time at the Macaroni Grill. There was a total of 9 of us around the table. I was reminded that I have some really awesome people as friends. Many people didn't know each other, but we talked as though we'd all been friends for years. After dinner (and dessert, of course) a few of us ventured to the Electric Cowboy for the bachelorette party of P.'s sister.
I should point out that the group changed from one stop to the next,
and the biggest group was at dinner. It was so much fun hanging
out with my friends!!! Thank you so much to I. for putting this
all together!!! :)
And really, the birthday season isn't over yet! But more on that in another post.
Yesterday was awesome! To start the day off right, I took a bit of annual leave in the morning so that I could sleep in. I worked from 8:30-2:30. We had a lunch meeting with a couple of people from the medical school library in Memphis (one of our guests was the director, who had never visited our library before). It's there that I had my first cake of the day: a slice of cheesecake. Yum!
Just before lunch, one of my aunts stopped by and gave me a gorgeous birthday card and a check for $30. She told me to buy something pretty for myself. I'm planning on getting these Alice in Wonderland sheets: http://tinyurl.com/gre3j. The only reason that I haven't ordered yet is because I can't decide if I want to spend some of my other birthday money on the coordinating comforter: http://tinyurl.com/lf245. I probably will...
Last night, after my orthodontist appointment (I felt better after a couple of Excedrin), my mom, stepdad, and a few of my very best friends met up for dinner at Wasabi. We had a hibachi chef originally from a small town south of Baton Rouge. He was very talented and very funny. :) After dinner, most of us went back to my apartment for cake! It was as amazingly good as I remember from childhood. My mom made me a Stripe-it-Rich cake, also known as a Pudding Poke cake, with yellow cake and chocolate pudding.
Now, the teapots! My present from L. & family was a lovely "tea-for-one" set. I've been wanting one of these since I was last in England (July 2004) and now I finally have one! I don't drink much tea now because I don't want to stain my teeth with braces on, but in a little over a year I can go back to my tea habit! :) And I have quite the selection now...my mom & stepdad got me a fabulous English China tea set. It's made by Royal Patrician, and the pattern is Rose Bouquet. It's beautiful, and very British-looking. :) I love it!!! The tea set has two teapots--one larger and one smaller, a tray, teacups, mugs (for cocoa!), dessert plates, a teapot warmer, sugar & creamer...I think that's all, but it seems like I may be forgetting something. Also, my mom cross-stitched the base of a serving tray (will take a picture and post later). And will post the quote later, as this post is getting really long.
I see more tea parties in my future!
Honestly, the best part of the day was seeing and talking with family and friends. I had really forgotten about presents until I was at work yesterday! It was so much fun getting visits at work, e-cards, e-mails, gmail chats, etc. I got to spend my evening with some of the most important people in my world. To top off my evening, I got a phone call from my brother. We talked for 30 minutes about my day, recent goings-on with us, and college football.
Yep. Best birthday ever. :)
...of being a twenty-something. Tomorrow I'll be 30!
I'm actually looking forward to being in my 30s. I've heard good things so far about the upcoming decade. I imagine it'll be fillled with change as well as things staying the same.
I'm having a big birthday season, and after this weekend, I'll likely have more time to reflect on this. :)
